James Everhart, D.O.

Dr. James Everhart, D.O., specializes in infectious diseases with special interests in microbiology, diagnostic stewardship, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and HIV.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida, Dr. Everhart received his doctoral degree in osteopathy from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. Additionally, he completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio, and fellowships in Infectious disease and medical microbiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Dr. Everhart’s interest in infectious diseases began when he worked as a medical technician at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He enjoys educating patients on the importance of infection prevention and promoting patient safety.

“Finding the correct diagnosis and guiding patients toward recovery is incredibly fulfilling,” says Dr. Everhart. “It’s rewarding witnessing the gradual improvement of patients who were once in critical conditions.”

Dr. Everhart is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the American College of Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is a published author and has written about advances in molecular diagnostics. He has also presented posters on various topics including pancreatitis, renal failure, Shewanella spp., abdominal pain, and paraspinal compartment syndrome.

In his spare time, Dr. Everhart enjoys learning about the history of medicine, mycology, woodworking, and collecting and playing acoustic guitars. He and his wife live in Savannah with their Siberian husky and they enjoy traveling and outdoor activities.
