Dr. Jacob Januszewski, D.O. is one of the few Minimally Invasive (MIS) Complex Spine Deformity surgeons in the country, specially trained in minimally invasive spine surgery by the current leader in this field and chief of spine surgery at Barrow Neurological Institute, Dr. Juan Uribe, MD. Dr. Januszewski evaluates each patient’s spinal biomechanics and treats the spine by maintaining proper spinal alignment and balance. This systematic approach leads to decreased failure of fusion caused by iatrogenic flat back and adjacent segment disease and improved patient outcomes. He performs complex spine reconstruction with minimally invasive techniques and is highly trained in revision surgery for flat back, iatrogenic spinal deformity, and scoliosis. He welcomes new patients who may have an undiagnosed back problem related to their prior spine surgery.

He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010 and completed his neurosurgical residency in 2016 at North Shore – LIJ University Hospital, Northwell Health System on Long Island, NY. During residency, Dr. Januszewski developed an interest in working with large database systems and had written several quality improvement manuscripts and publications. At the same time, he became an avid long-distance runner and a fitness enthusiast, which he continues to incorporate into his daily life today, and motivate others to start a healthier lifestyle.
After completing his residency, Dr. Januszewski spent one year in a prestigious spine fellowship at the University of South Florida with one of the world-renowned pioneers of Complex and Minimally Invasive Spine (MIS) surgery for spinal deformity, Dr. Juan Uribe, MD. During his fellowship, he developed a strong interest in spinal biomechanics, adult spinal deformity, and scoliosis. He believes even the simplest of cases must be treated thoughtfully, with proper spinal biomechanics in mind, to avoid possible long-term complications that lead to failed back surgery. His energetic personality, strong work ethic, and dedication to the field allowed him to write over 21 scientific manuscripts on spinal deformity resulting in 16 publications and six book chapters. He also presented at over 14 national conferences and peer-reviewed over a dozen scientific manuscripts.
Dr. Januszewski’s renown and reputation among colleagues and patients stem from his core values of treating others as he would treat his family. He prides himself in providing everyone with all treatment options, including any non-surgical options the patient may have omitted before considering surgery. His surgical outcomes speak for themselves, as Dr. Januszewski primarily relies on word-of-mouth referrals from patients in his private practice.
Dr. Jay is an excellent doctor. He sits down with you and talks to you . He explains things so you understand and I feel that he truly cares about his patience.❣️
He’s very detailed organized and explains everything!
Expecting patients to wait in excess of one hour to be seen is outrageous. Additionally, the communication between The scheduling team and the patient is disjointed. We were asked to bring images and then never asked for them. We were there as a follow up but the staff did not review the notes in the file before our visit. Check out was slow.
Was a rewarding experience
He is so nice and understanding I always feel welcome at the office and everyone treats me so respectfully.
Always great customer service, his work is amazing. He changed my life for the better and I couldn’t be happier! I recommend anyone and everyone to him. I did a disc replacement in my neck and the incision is so perfect, it’ll heal and look like I never had surgery! I can’t thank him and his team enough.
