He practices general ophthalmology with a primary interest in refractive laser vision cataract surgery. He uses sutureless techniques and provides the latest in premium lens implant technology. His goal is to allow his patients the opportunity to regain youthful vision and greater independence from glasses and contact lenses. Dr. Elhalis also specializes in laser vision correction with LASIK and PRK, and corneal transplantation using the latest DSAEK and DMAEK techniques.
After graduating with honors in biological sciences from Wayne State University in 2005, Dr. Elhalis attended medical school through the scholar's program at Ross University School of Medicine. He was awarded the highest honors for graduating in the top five percent of his medical school class. It was during medical school that he developed an interest in ophthalmology.
“The field of ophthalmology has already achieved monumental advancements in cataract and laser surgery, resulting in outcomes that could not have been imagined three or four decades ago. The ability to provide these types of outcomes to patients was likely the greatest influencing factor that led me to choose ophthalmology as a career, ” says Dr. Elhalis.
He then completed his internal medicine training at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. Dr. Elhalis completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship specialty training at the University of Florida in Gainesville. During his ophthalmology training, Dr. Elhalis cared for service members at the naval air station in Jacksonville, FL, treating ocular injuries and performing laser vision correction for pilots and navy officers.
Dr. Elhalis is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, the American Society of Cornea & Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. "It is an honor to help my patients achieve their best possible vision and improve their quality of life,” says Dr. Elhalis.

Dr Elhalis talked to me about my overall health issues that could eventually tie in with my vision health in the future. He recommended eye drops that could help me both now and later if my eye health becomes affected by other factors in the future. I feel like he is the only Doctor who has given me a comprehensive overview of what may help me in the future should certain factors arise. I really appreciate all that he went over with me today and I now understand the need for an annual visit. Thank you Dr. Elhalis!
The best. Explains everything in a simplified manner that is easy to understand.

Explained everything so well. Pleased with how thorough.
Excellent experience with the Dr and the staff. Would highly recommend.
Very professional explain everything to me.
Dr Elhalis’s staff is friendly, competent, and knowledgeable. Dr Elhalis is very professional, and despite being very busy, he took the time to answer my all questions. I do not usually say this about doctor visits, but I enjoyed the experience. Ocala Eye is a Busy practice. The wait time can be longer than expected, but in this individual’s experience, the wait was worth it. Thank you, Ocala Eye.
I've been an Ocala Eye patient for more than 20 years. Dr. Hussain Elhalis is a superb physician.
Dr. Elhalis became our family's ophthalmologist 11 years ago. He treated my aging dad with tender care. My dad thought Dr Elhalis was the best ever; my dad's eyesight was dimming but he never lost sight. My husband has wet AMD and gets regular treatments, but once a year Dr Elhalis still gives him a retina checkup. As for me, I hated losing him to his new role of surgeon, but at the ripe age of 77, my eyes are still perfect. Thanks, Dr Elhalis, for taking such good care of our eyesight. You're the best!
Dr. Elhalis is always so pleasant and informative. I love him!
