Dr. Hugh McDermott, M.D. joins the Spine Nevada Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department after completing fellowship-training in Pain Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta. He is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Before his fellowship, Dr. McDermott fulfilled residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehab at Emory University and the University of Loyola. He completed a transitional year of training and education at Presence Health-St. Joseph Hospital as a follow up to medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. McDermott’s procedural experience includes interventional spine and musculoskeletal injections, radiofrequency ablations, electrodiagnostic studies, sacroiliac joint fusions, vertebral augmentation, and peripheral nerve stimulation.
Dr. McDermott is a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Spine Interventional Society, the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation.
He strives to exhaust all conservative measures to help patients return to a more active life with their families and work. He also understands the importance of keeping the human element in healthcare. “I often find that making time for quality discussion during the clinic visit helps my patients’ aches and pains as much as any other treatment options available to them,” says Dr. McDermott.
Unacceptable treatment before and after. No one gave me information about the procedure, and no one took my blood pressure. No gown was given to me, instead lifted up my dress to injection site and spoke through his mask which I could not understand what he was saying because the machines were also interfering with what he was saying. He did the injections and left the room with no instructions afterwards. It’s been 6 days post procedure and no relief. The follow up appt. Scheduled for Sept. Julie the MA said he doesn’t speak to his patients about the procedure and issues that I had. I was mortified and extremely upset.
He takes time to answer questions.seems to care
Friendly and answered all my questions without dismissing me with attitude. Understood my dealing with the pain. Was empathetic.
Friendly and knowledgeable
Dr McDermott answered all my questions and explained the answers in an easily understandable and caring manner.
Great job
Dr. McDermott is a professional and caring physician who specializes in Pain Management. I would highly recommend him.
He takes the time to numb every thing well before my ablation. He also answers my questions. I really appreciate that it isn't as painful as with my previous pain doctor.
He is friendly and explains everything as he is doing the procedure. I like him.
I appreciate his honesty straightforwardness and his effort to do the best that can be done.
