Dr. Gregory P. Macaluso, M.D., earned his medical degree at Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the same institution. He then finished his fellowships in advanced heart failure, ventricular assist devices, and transplant cardiology at Advocate Lutheran General and Loyola. Quadruple board-certified and former Chief Fellow, Dr. Macaluso specializes in cardiac transplant candidacy, LVAD heart pumps, and endomyocardial biopsies. Joining HCCI in 2011, he delivers expert, interdisciplinary care.

Dr. Gregory P. Macaluso, M.D., graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 2000. There he was awarded the Lawrence H. Baldinger Award which is presented annually to an outstanding pre-medical student. He then matriculated through Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine where he graduated in 2004. He continued his training there for both Internship and Residency in the Department of Internal Medicine and in his third year, also served as Associate Chief Resident. From 2007 until 2010, Dr. Macaluso completed a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. There he served as Chief Cardiology Fellow and was recognized by the Department of Internal Medicine for excellence in teaching. Following Cardiology fellowship, Dr. Macaluso returned to Loyola University Medical Center to complete a subspecialty fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure, Left Ventricular Assist Devices, and Transplant Cardiology which was completed in the summer of 2011.
Dr. Macaluso works with a team of Cardiologists and Cardiothoracic Surgeons to manage patients with advanced heart failure and left ventricular assist devices (heart pumps or LVADS) and with those who have received a cardiac transplant. Dr. Macaluso is trained to help determine candidacy for potential therapies like a heart transplant or a left ventricular assist device and has additional interest in patients who suffer from heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. He is also skilled in the performance and interpretation of both right heart catheterization and endomyocardial biopsies, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, stress testing, and holter monitoring.
Dr. Macaluso is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, and Adult Echocardiography.
Dr. Macaluso joined Heart Care Centers of Illinois in August of 2011.
