Gary Blanchard, MD

Dr. Gary Blanchard is a Geriatrician at HealthyU, having previously practiced at the Saint Vincent Hospital–Worcester Medical Center location of Saint Vincent Medical Group before the practice was acquired. Dr. Blanchard specializes in caring for older adults with a wide range of health issues, using an interdisciplinary model that addresses the multiple needs of each patient. His team-based approach emphasizes communication among all healthcare professionals involved in a patient’s care.

Focusing on the health issues most important to his patients, Dr. Blanchard works collaboratively with them to develop care plans tailored to their goals and daily lives. “Delivering care that is mindful of what’s vital to each patient helps ensure they can remain independent in their own home for as long as possible—which is the main goal of most of the patients I treat.”

Dr. Blanchard encourages his patients to pursue wellness through manageable, daily physical activity such as walking. “Even if it’s walking once around the block or in the grocery store, there’s no medication that can rival the benefits of daily exercise. It’s one of the few interventions that is totally devoid of possible side effects.”

Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, Dr. Blanchard completed his residency and chief residency at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. He went on to complete a geriatrics fellowship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and he earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. As an academic clinician-educator, he has developed original geriatrics curriculum for medical students, nursing students, and residents with the support of a federal grant.
