The experiences as an F-16 Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force (USAF) combined with his extensive orthopaedic training in adult reconstructive surgical techniques has allowed Dr. Frank Rowan to be one of the most respected surgeons in the Greater Triad Region. Dr. Rowan is a competent and knowledgeable physician when it comes to occupational and cumulative trauma work-related injuries, addressing the specific nature, severity and physical demands of work-related injuries. Having been trained in total joint replacement and revisions, Dr. Rowan often will perform Independent Medical Evaluations (IME’S) on patients as a second opinion or at the request of an attorney. Dr. Rowan chose orthopaedics as a specialty after assisting a sailing comrade who sustained fractures during a race. His journey of being on the forefront of orthopaedic advancements was evident even then as he fashioned waterproof splints from boat fiberglass to assist his comrade.
Dr. Rowan has served as team physician for Ragsdale High School for thirteen years while offering quality medical care to athletes of all competitive levels of sport including N.C. A&T State University, Greensboro Black Belt Academy, and Tumblebees Gym. In addition to these areas of service, Dr. Rowan has participated as a clinical instructor of physician assistant students from Wake Forest University and nursing students from Cone Hospital.
Although he retired from his 21 years of service in the USAF, Dr. Rowan remains physically active by practicing Tae Kwon Do, sailing, and scuba diving. He is an avid photographer and computer enthusiast. He resides in Greensboro with his wife and three children.
