Rich Preuss, M.D., graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a minor in Arabic language. He ran cross-country and track at the Naval Academy and following graduation he completed Navy SEAL training at the Naval Special Warfare Center in California.

As a Navy SEAL officer, he was based in Virginia and the United Kingdom, deploying multiple times abroad. After seven years of service, he left active duty in the Navy to pursue a career in medicine.
He went on to complete a post-baccalaureate premedical certificate at Bryn Mawr College and then earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Virginia. Dr. Preuss completed his residency at the UCLA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Los Angeles. He then completed a Sports, Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, where he worked with the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte FC and Charlotte Knights.
Dr. Preuss is widely published on a variety of topics in orthopedics. He enjoys working with patients to help them recover from injury, achieve their goals and resume an active life.
Dr. Preuss is proficient in Spanish as a second language.
Outside of the operating room, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys.
