Procedure went well. Prompt, clean environment, well staffed. Would have liked more info pre and post procedure instructions. Paid $$ for nitrous oxide, which had little or no effect.

Dr. Vapnek’s bedside manner could use improvement. He often enters and leaves the room very quickly, making it difficult to receive clear instructions or ask questions. When discussing my father’s recurring infections, his response was, “This is what happens to the elderly; there’s nothing you can do.” I found that comment both discouraging and unhelpful. I would have appreciated a more compassionate and informative discussion regarding my father’s care.

Dr. Evan M. Vapnek, M.D. is a Board Certified Urologist and Kidney Transplant surgeon. In addition to being a founding member of Genesis Healthcare Partners, he is the Surgical Director of the Living Donor Program of the Sharp Memorial Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program. He has been practicing in San Diego since 1999.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Vapnek received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester before earing his M.D. from the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He completed two years of General Surgery training at University of California, San Francisco follow by a Urology residency at Downstate Medical Center. He then completed a two year fellowship in Renal Transplantation at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
He is a past president of the San Diego Urological Association and serves on the board for the Urologic Society for Transplant and Renal Surgery.
Dr. Vapnek is on staff at Sharp Memorial and Scripps Mercy hospitals. He treats all urologic conditions including kidney stones, enlarged prostate, urinary incontinence and has particular expertise in laparoscopic and robotic kidney surgery.
