Dr. Erik Nilssen, M.D., is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is the only person to have completed fellowships in both Sports Medicine and Foot & Ankle at the American Sports Medicine Institute under the direction of Dr. James R. Andrews.
He earned his Bachelor of Science from Auburn University and his medical degree from the University of South Florida School of Medicine. Dr. Nilssen completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at McGill University before pursuing advanced specialized training.
In addition to treating injuries and conditions of the foot and ankle, Dr. Nilssen specializes in Orthopaedic Occupational Health, which includes the evaluation and treatment of worker’s compensation injuries. He believes that patients injured on the job should have access to the full continuum of orthopaedic care, from the initial drug screening and assessment to surgical intervention to physical therapy if needed. His in-depth understanding of the worker’s compensation system also allows him to effectively and efficiently communicate with the employer and insurance provider involved.
