He truly cares about his patients. He listens and takes the time to answer questions. I wouldn’t see anyone else for hip or knee surgery and treatment.

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Cohen at University Orthopedics. I truly can’t say enough good things about the entire team. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the front desk staff, who were friendly, efficient, and made the check-in process smooth and stress-free.
The medical assistant and Liz Welch NP were just as wonderful—kind, attentive, and professional. They took the time to listen, made me feel comfortable, and ensured all my questions were addressed before I even saw the doctor.
As for Dr. Cohen very knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely caring. I never felt rushed during my appointment.
Overall, this is a practice that truly values its patients. I highly recommend Dr. Cohen and his team!

Dr. Eric M. Cohen is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in total hip and knee replacements at University Orthopedics. His focus is on minimally invasive total hip and knee replacement and rapid recovery after total joint replacements. He performs direct anterior total hip replacement, partial knee replacement, total knee replacement and complex revision surgeries. Dr. Cohen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Orthopedic Research Society. His research interests include rapid recovery after joint replacement and modifiable risk factors prior to joint replacement.
Dr. Cohen attended the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology graduating summa cum laude. He then attended medical school at the University of Tennessee where he graduated in the top of his class and was elected into AOA – the highest medical school honor granted. After medical school, he went to Brown University for his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery followed by two additional years of fellowship training in Orthopedic Trauma and Adult Reconstruction.
Dr. Cohen has traveled throughout the United States and internationally to learn the latest surgical techniques and innovations in direct anterior total hip replacement and to volunteer his time and talent. He remains active in orthopedic research and his research interests include orthopedic trauma, anterior total hip replacement and modifiable risk factors prior to total joint replacement. Dr. Cohen has published several journal articles and book chapters on these topics and has lectured nationally.
Dr. Cohen operates at the East Bay Surgery Center, The Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital and Westerly Hospital and sees patients at many of the University Orthopedics Rhode Island locations.
