Dr. Eric Benson first became interested in orthopedics as a young athlete. “When I was 12 years old, I was a baseball pitcher. I was probably throwing too much and I went to see an orthopedic surgeon. That was my first experience with orthopedics. When I got to college I made the decision to pursue it.”
When it came time to deciding on a subspecialty, Dr. Benson chose adult reconstruction – hip and knee replacements – rather than sports medicine.
“What drew me to adult reconstruction was that the older patients, typically over 50, seemed to have more perspective on life. And to me they were the most fun patients to take care of. The procedures are very rewarding with a high likelihood of success.”
Dr. Benson is most proud of the fact that he has been in practice in the same community for over 20 years and has done over 12,000 total hip and knee replacements since 1999.
“I’m now seeing the children of the people I treated 20 years ago and did hip and knee replacement on. They’re coming in for surgery themselves. It is really rewarding to get to know families through multiple generations.”

Dr. Benson graduated from The College of the Holy Cross, Summa Cum Laude before attending medical school at the University of Massachusetts. He interned at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Hartford Hospital and Saint Frances Hospital. He did his residency at the University of Connecticut Medical Center, Hartford Hospital, Saint Frances Hospital, Newington Children’s Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. His fellowship was in adult reconstruction at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Benson was voted Top Orthopaedic Surgeon or leading physician by New Hampshire Magazine each year since 2001 except 2002 and 2010. He was also elected a member of Best Doctors in July, 2007 and won the 2004 New Hampshire Union-Leader ‘Top 40 Under 40’ award.

Needs to make sure his staff coordinates what he tells patients and what actually is accomplished as far as prescriptions go. DR BENSON IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST HIP SURGEON IN ALL THE USA. Very thorough easy to talk to and explains in detail.
I would highly recommend Dr Benson for any orthropedic procedures anyone needs to have done. This is my second total knee with no issues

If you live in the area or even if you have to travel a little bit, there is no reason why you wouldn’t want to see the best and the best is Dr. Benson.. He takes care of your knee, your thighs and everything in between to get you feeling like you used to and not living in pain. Tbe most important thing Dr. Benson gives you is hope that you will be better. And there’s no price tag for that.
Dr Benson is very friendly, and he did a great job on my Knee. My Knee feels great and I have no issues. He showed and explained the Xray to me in a matter that I ewas able to understand. Thank You Dr. Benson
