She graduated from the University of California School of Medicine and did her residency in Internal Medicine at The Cambridge Hospital in Massachusetts. She worked for 23 years at a neighborhood health center where she trained junior doctors in Internal Medicine and was a Harvard Medical School Clinical Instructor in Medicine.
