Dr. Edmund A. Ganal, MD, is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon at OrthoConnecticut, specializing in Sports Medicine. A Tufts Medical graduate and former US Navy Battalion Surgeon, he completed his fellowship training at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. Dr. Ganal focuses on shoulder, knee, and hip arthroscopy, serving as a Team Physician for the US Ski and Snowboard teams.

Edmund A. Ganal, M.D., graduated magna cum laude with Revelle Provost honors from University of California, San Diego with a degree in biochemistry and cell biology, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and played NCAA soccer. He volunteered on a medical mission to the Philippines before attending Tufts University School of Medicine on a Health Professional Scholarship. Dr. Ganal completed a general surgery internship then served as a battalion surgeon with the Marines where he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After completing orthopedic residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, he was stationed at Newport, RI where he deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom and took care of combat casualties. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado and specializes in shoulder, knee and hip arthroscopy.
Dr. Ganal is currently a team physician for the US Men’s and Women’s Ski and Snowboard teams, New Milford High School and Joel Barlow High School in Redding. He has provided medical coverage for Mountain Dew Winter Tour Games, the Naval Academy Preparatory School, and Eagle Valley High School. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He has served 13 years in the United States Navy and is looking forward to bringing his experience to Western Connecticut.
