Triangle Urology Associates, P.A. ("TUA") has been in existence since 1927 and was one of the first surgical specialty groups in Urology in the country. It would not be until 1930 that Duke University Medical Center would form their own division of Urology within the Department of Surgery. TUA surgeons were the first in the state of North Carolina to perform an ileal loop urinary diversion following radical cystectomy (removal of the bladder) for bladder cancer. This innovative spirit continues to this day with TUA developing the first Brachytherapy Program for Prostate Cancer in Central North Carolina, in conjunction with the Radiation Oncology Department at Duke University Medical Center, in 1997.
With excellent academic training programs in Urology at Duke University Medical Center and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (indeed, some of our physicians have trained at these programs), people in the Triangle often choose to receive their urologic care from TUA for the more personal professional relationships of an intimate private practice setting than is possible in a larger, multi-specialty research-oriented and resident-training focused institutional environment. Since the practice of Urology is our only focus, we are more accessible to both patients and referring physicians and can be more responsive to changes in patient needs as well as changes in the delivery of health care. This is evident in the our adoption of numerous recent advances in Urology, many of which are only available in the Triangle through TUA, for example, in office Prostate Brachytherapy, our advanced prostate cancer clinic, in office CT scanning, and in office Urolift and Rezum for the treatment of BHP.* These services, coupled with those offered through Duke Regional Hospital such as laparoscopic renal surgery, laparoscopic, robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, cryotherapy of the prostate and Holmium Laser Endoscopic Surgery allow us to provide patients of TUA the cutting edge in Urologic care in the comfort available only through a private practice setting.
Many people take comfort in the knowledge that their care is delivered by five urologists (we do not employ PAs or Residents in our practice) allowing prompt evaluation of urgent conditions as they arise, in a personal and caring environment.
