Dr. Douglas W. Pahl, M.D. graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas then earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He completed his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, GA. After completion of his distinguished army career, Dr. Pahl elected to complete a fellowship in orthopaedic spine surgery at the prestigious Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Pahl is a United States Army veteran of over twelve years and combat veteran of two major military conflicts during his career, Operation Joint Guard in eastern Europe and, more recently, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The United States Army selected him for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel during his most recent deployment to Afghanistan. He was the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Services at Martin Army Community Hospital at Ft. Benning for two years and also commanded a detachment from the 14th Combat Support Hospital during his deployment to the war in Afghanistan. Dr. Pahl earned many military awards during his army career including three Meritorious Service Medals and the prestigious Expert Field Medical Badge.
Dr. Pahl is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He obtained his certification in orthopaedic surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) in 2005, was re-certified in 2012, and currently maintains his certification through the ABOS. He has authored articles and completed research on orthopaedic surgery and spinal disorders. Dr. Pahl has been selected as the Chairman of the North American Spine Society Public Affairs Committee. Currently, he is also the Director of the Orthopaedic Spine Service for the Jack Hughston Memorial Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Pahl specializes in orthopaedic spinal surgery. He is well trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques and has trained numerous surgeons in this field. He specializes in adult spinal deformity of the spine as well as pediatric sport injuries involving the spine.
