Dr. Douglas Pacaccio, D.P.M., FACFAS, has been passionate about biology from a young age. As a student, he received an anatomy poster of the leg, ankle, and foot, sparking a deep interest in the biomechanics of movement. This fascination led him to earn dual degrees in Biology and Philosophy with a concentration in Ethics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Pacaccio had the opportunity to shadow the University of Illinois basketball team’s podiatrist. Observing procedures such as bunionectomy surgeries significantly influenced his career path, solidifying his desire to pursue medicine. He went on to attend Rosalind Franklin University/Chicago Medical School, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.
Dr. Pacaccio completed his residency at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center, gaining comprehensive training in foot and ankle surgery. He further honed his expertise through a fellowship in lower extremity reconstruction and diabetic limb salvage at Georgetown University Medical Center.
His advanced training allows him to specialize in custom solutions for critical size defects, total ankle replacement, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, surgical repair of peripheral nerve disorders, diabetic Charcot reconstruction, deformity correction using external fixation, orthopedic traumatology, limb salvage, and regenerative medicine techniques.
Dr. Pacaccio emphasizes clear communication with his patients, explaining their conditions in an accessible way and tailoring treatment options to their specific goals. He values the importance of every patient’s concerns and strives to provide compassionate and effective care.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Pacaccio has contributed to medical innovation as a founding member of MedShape, Inc., an Atlanta-based medical device company, and holds several orthopedic device patents. He has served on the Board of Directors, as past president of the Illinois Medical Association, and on multiple hospital committees.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, engaging in hunting and fishing, cooking, and winemaking. Dr. Pacaccio is dedicated to helping patients return to an active, pain-free lifestyle.
