Dr. Donald McGinnis strives to meet the expectations of his patients, especially when it comes to getting them back to activities they enjoy most. Working with athletes and assisting them to recover and return to sports after an injury motivated Dr. McGinnis to focus his specialization on sports medicine and arthroscopy. Growing up the son of a physician in Oklahoma City, he knew from an early age he wanted to pursue a career in medicine, just like his older siblings. His fellowship training in Sports Medicine, coupled with a desire to give back to the community has kept him active, working with athletes of all ages in a variety of sports. Dr. McGinnis serves as a U.S. Olympic Snowboarding Team Physician and has spent almost 20 years on Sooner sidelines, working as a Team Physician for the University of Oklahoma athletic programs. Dr. McGinnis and his wife, Stacy, are committed to health and wellness in their own lives and are proud parents of four grown, athletic sons.

As usual, I found Dr. McGinnis to very professional during my brief visit to receive a steroid injection in my shoulder. He explained that the X-rays of my shoulder didn’t show any changes from the previous imaging which was welcome news. Then while administering the injection, Dr.McGinnis explained that if would take up to 2 days for the benefits to be realized. Lastly, when I asked about the frequency and duration of safely receiving steroid injections, Dr.McGinnis explained that as long as the frequency is no less than once every 3 months, there is no limit regarding how long I can receive them which I found reassuring.
Always has a smile for his patients. Examines the joint involved throughly and gently. Clearly explains the treatment options and allows patient to decide course of treatment. I trust him implicitly.
