Dr. McKinley describes his personal philosophy of care as believing, “medicine is a gift that God allows me to use to meet the needs of other individuals. My ability to practice medicine is a great opportunity and I desire to give my patients the best care that I am capable of doing.”
Dr. McKinley’s training allows him to not only treat non-operative orthopaedic conditions, but he is able to treat individuals with other medical conditions in athletes that are not orthopaedic in nature. Dr. McKinley chose to train in sports medicine to gain an added area of expertise to complement his family medicine training. This also allows him to treat the whole patient (and their family members) for anything from the concussions to strains and sprains. As a former college basketball player, he has a unique insight to understanding what it takes to care for patients eager to return to play. He gains great satisfaction in assisting patients in becoming healthier and returning to their normal activity of daily living.
Dr. McKinley has served as team physician for North Carolina A&T State University since 2001 and helps cover Bishop McGinnis High School football since 2003. He also offers quality medical care to athletes and their families of all competitive levels of sport which include basketball, running, golf, lacrosse, and tennis to name a few.
Dr. McKinley remains involved and committed to our community through church involvement and outreach affiliations. He teaches residents training in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine. He also regularly lectures to the Cone Health System Internal Medicine residents. Dr. McKinley enjoys playing golf, coaching teams and being involved with his children’s school.

First time seeing Dr. McKindley and as I’m usually a little apprehensive of seeing a new doctor… he was very nice, ha a nice personality. Did a great job and I definitely would recommend him.

Thank you Dr. McKinley! My hand feels so much better today. You put the Cortisone shot in just the right spot.
