Dr. Derek West, a native Oklahoman, grew up in South Oklahoma City. After graduating in 2001 from the OSU Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa, he returned to Oklahoma City to complete his Internship and Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Anthony Hospital. He received additional training in pediatrics from the Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio as well as training in trauma, total joint replacement, and shoulder and elbow surgery while rotating at Tampa General Hospital in Florida.
His comprehensive practice ranges from general orthopedics and trauma to sports medicine, joint replacement procedures, and shoulder & elbow surgery. Utilizing arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques, patients benefit from smaller incisions, less pain, shorter rehabilitation periods, and an earlier return to activity.
For the last 14 years, Dr. West has enjoyed a thriving practice. He has given back to his profession by serving as the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program Director for 7 years, and by teaching and educating young orthopedic surgeons over the last decade. He also serves in leadership positions as the Chief of Surgery, Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of multiple other committees at various hospitals.
Dr. West is AOA board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery.

He listened to me about where my pain was located and didn’t just jump to “injecting steroids” to fix it! I’m thankful for that!

Patient care with Dr. West is non-existent. I’ve only seen him two times throughout the course of the last couple of years and two surgeries. He doesn’t check on his patients after surgery, and even if you do end up seeing him in clinic at his office somehow, he seems very grumpy, like he has a chip on his shoulder, and he wouldn’t know anyone’s name whatsoever if the paper didn’t tell him who it was. Very much a “just wants to cut” type of surgeon with no regard for patient care.
Had to wait for almost 2 hours before being seen, but they did tell me they were behind and I was a same day patient.
Excellent Surgeon… It’s a great feeling knowing you're in the best care possible for such an intense knee replacement! Thank you for making my life better as I turn 65…

Dr West is always very attentive and pleasant to greet. He doesn’t waste time with a lot of small talk but gets to the point of the visit. I appreciate his professionalism and addresses your discomfort fight away. You leave the viisit knowing he addressed all your concerns
