Dr. David S. Schnapp M.D., enjoys educating patients on urology matters and can be heard on WUAB and WGVA News Radio, and Classic Hits 99.3. Dr. Schnapp has become one of the most experienced and respected Urologic Robotic surgeons in the New York City area as well as on Long Island. He graduated from Stony Brook Medical School in 1990 and subsequently completed a 6-year residency training program in Urology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center under the tutelage of Dr. Arthur Smith, the “Father of Minimally Invasive Urology”. Dr. Schnapp is one of the few robotic surgeons in practice today who also has a vast experience with “open” traditional surgery. Prior to his training on the Da Vinci, he had an extensive surgical case load in both radical retropubic and radical perineal prostatectomy. His experience in both open and robotic surgical approaches has allowed him to treat some of the most difficult cases with confidence. He is also expert in the performance of the “nerve sparing technique” which is routinely done to preserve sexual function after prostate removal. Dr. Schnapp offers regional expertise with minimally invasive treatments for BPH (benign enlargement of the prostate gland). He has extensive experience with the Urolift procedure. His prior experience with the REZUM procedure had earned him the distinction of having had his former practice designated as the only “Center of Excellence” in the entire Northeastern U.S. He was invited to sit on a panel of experts to review his experience with REZUM at the national American Urologic Association’s annual conference in San Francisco in 2018. Dr. Schnapp is a member of the American Board of Urology (ABU), the American Urologic Association (AUA), the Medical Society of the State of New York and the New York Section/AUA
