I felt like I was somewhat of annoyance to the doctor. On entering the 1st thing out of his mouth was “what can I do for you?” —His tone made me feel as though he felt I was a burden/wasting his time. His exam was very short and I felt like he was in a hurry to leave. During the discussion of my issue, he advised me that my appointment should have been scheduled with another specialist, not him. I felt he was talking down to me during the appointment. I was referred to Ortho NC by my PCP for chronic pain and I didn’t know I was scheduled with the wrong specialist . I have been seen by a couple of other doctors at this office in the past, all of whom I found to be considerate, informative and caring . I think showing a genuine interest and listening unhurriedly to a patient’s concerns is an important quality for a healthcare professional to have . I rated 3 instead of 2 because as a doctor myself , I realize we all have bad and frustrating days in healthcare.

Dr. Rion has replaced a knee for me 5 yrs ago and I have recovered quite well! I can bicycle and lift heavy things with no issues. So I trust him! He is direct and I appreciate that.

Professional, honest, not pushy. Gives you the problem, tells you how he can help fix it, leaves the choice to you.

Too fast. Didn’t listen. Condescending. Lacking in knowledge.

While I could tell that Dr Rion was confident and competent, I was taken aback by my interaction with him. The reviews I read prior to my appointment described him as kind, caring, and a good listener. My interaction with him lasted under seven mins during which time he gave me four short commands about where to sit and how to lie down, manipulated my knee quickly and skillfully, but without any discussion about what he was going to do, causing great anxiety for me as I was bracing for the sharp acute pain that I get when bending my own knee gently. He then abruptly said "MRI". I asked a couple of questions which he answered curly before passing me to his assistant. I have a degree in Biology and understand an MRI shows damage to soft tissues and cartilege that the xray can not and that he cant address the issue until he sees it. I hope my MRI follow-up is with the guy described in the reviews I read and I'll chalk this up to a bad day. He may not be the surgeon for me if not.
