He received his Orthopaedic training at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and his Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Over the past 20 years he has had the privilege of being the team physician for many athletic teams from high school to professional. His highlight was being the medical director and team physician of the Tampa Bay Storm for 10 years.
Currently, he teaches residents and fellows as an adjunct professor of the University of South Florida School of Medicine. He has received the Community Professor of the Year from the residents. He is also the director of Sports Medicine at Morton Plant Hospital and the team physician for Calvary Christian, Mitchell and Clearwater High Schools.
He limits his practice to the care of active patients with a goal of returning them to their full potential. His surgical practice is mainly knee and shoulder arthroscopy with special emphasis on Anterior Cruciate ligament reconstruction, patellar instability, rotator cuff repair and shoulder stability operations.
He is a very nice doctor.
Dr. Thompson is an excellent doctor He has taken great care of me by repairing my bicep and rotator cuff tendons. He is a very caring person.
Knowledgeable and friendly. Exactly who I needed to see to help me with my shoulder issue.
Dr Thompson was very helpful.
Entire office very courteous, caring, prompt and professional. Made appointment for next day after I called. From front desk to x ray techs to Dr. Thompson to check out. Had surgery 5 years ago and no one else I would go to.
wonderful doctor
Dr. Thompson was very professional
I was very impressed with his professionalism but more than that it was that Dr Thompson represents, hopefully, a return to a time when doctors were in the business of health care not sick care. He isn’t interested in just keeping you sick or cycling through as many patients as possible for money or just doing unnecessary surgeries under the guise of “health” but he took the time to care for me and I appreciated it very much.
Dr Thompson is so kind. He takes time to listen and answers all questions. He’s very patient and understanding. He’s the best!
My daughter went in for a consultation about her bilateral knee pain. She's going through a growth spurt and we confirmed diagnosis that we suspected. He eased our concerns as parents and helped us understand how my daughter can proceed in her dance career or how she can manage and move forward. Dr Thompson was very kind, knowledgeable, and he put us at ease. I would highly recommend him
