Dr. David P. Thompson, MD is a board-certified, fellowship trained Orthopaedic surgeon. He has been with the group since 2000, starting when the group was on Lakeview Drive. He received his Orthopaedic training at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and his Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Over the past 20 years he has had the privilege of being the team physician for many athletic teams from high school to professional. His highlight was being the medical director and team physician of the Tampa Bay Storm for 10 years.
Currently, he teaches residents and fellows as an adjunct professor of the University of South Florida School of Medicine. He has received the Community Professor of the Year from the residents. He is also the director of Sports Medicine at Morton Plant Hospital and the team physician for Calvary Christian, Mitchell and Clearwater High Schools.
He limits his practice to the care of active patients with a goal of returning them to their full potential. His surgical practice is mainly knee and shoulder arthroscopy with special emphasis on Anterior Cruciate ligament reconstruction, patellar instability, rotator cuff repair and shoulder stability operations.

Dr. Thompson is absolutely the best Orthopedic doctor ever. He is personable, caring, compassionate and professional. I will always go to him. He provides an injection with little to no pain.
As a new patient, Dr. Thompson took his time to properly diagnose a condition. Highly recommend.
Always a family favorite best doctor! Has treat me like family over the years, really listens.
The appointment felt a little rushed when discussing what the issue was. Dr did not give advice on how to reduce pain and what not to do in terms of healing process besides ordering an MRI and having a follow up appointment. I asked on some tips to reduce pain in which he mentioned to keep moving it so it did not stiffen up or apply heat.
Dr Thompson is fantastic. The staff is amazing and always so helpful. From beginning to the end is very easy process. I would highly recommend them.

I waited 55 minutes for a 5 minute consultation as a follow up to surgery. He's a good doctor and he does take the time to explain things - especially when you ask questions. Surgery went well. Other than the wait, I recommend him.
