Dr. David Gryboski, M.D., chose a career in medicine to promote the health and well-being of the community and to help those who are ill. He specializes in gastroenterology, a practice he enjoys for its involvement of multiple organ systems, the opportunity to get to know his patients, and the satisfaction of helping people who are actively ill and require emergency care.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He then received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School. Dr. Gryboski completed both his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He further specialized his skills by completing a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.
His special interests within gastroenterology include colon screening, ERCP, inflammatory bowel disease, reflux, and therapeutic endoscopy. The most rewarding aspect of his job is treating patients and curing diseases. He cites a memorable patient he diagnosed with colon cancer in 2009. After the patient underwent surgery and chemotherapy, she had no evidence of recurrence.
“I have enjoyed getting to know her and her family well and was even invited to her 50th birthday party,” Dr. Gryboski said.
If he were not a physician, Dr. Gryboski would have been a teacher, as he loves to learn and teach others. He enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including saltwater fishing, skiing, boating, hiking, and general exercise. He also enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his wife, Ruthie, sons, Will and Jack, and their two-year-old Black Lab, Luke.
