He also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Department Of Ophthalmology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He is the Co-Director of the Vitreo-Retinal Service at Hofstra/Northwell. He also holds an academic title of Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Hofstra/Northwell.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Retina Society, American Society of Retinal Specialists and the New York State Ophthalmologic Society. He is a member and former President of the Long Island Ophthalmologic Society. He received a Legislative appointment previously as a Board of Trustee at the Nassau University Medical Center.
Dr. Fastenberg is involved in numerous clinical trials at Long Island and Queens VRC as the Principal and Co-Investigator for diseases such as Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinal Vascular Occlusions.
Dr. Fastenberg earned his Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and received his M.D. from New York Medical College. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the Metropolitan Hospital Medical Center in New York. His residency in Ophthalmology was completed at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Fastenberg subsequently completed his fellowship in Medical and Surgical Disorders of The Retina and Vitreous at the Estelle Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was awarded the prestigious Heed Fellowship during his fellowship in Los Angeles He has been listed in publications including Castle Connelly Guide, Best Doctors Guide, Super Doctors, New York Magazine, New York Times and Newsday for his contribution to the Retina and Vitreous Field.
