Dr Daniel J. Lorenzan is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon who treats all injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Specializing in arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the upper extremity, he uses advanced surgical procedures and non-surgical treatments to provide comprehensive, compassionate care to patients of all ages. With a patient-care philosophy built on clinical knowledge, personalized care and collaborative style, Dr. Lorenzana welcomes new patients with both acute and chronic issues.
Dr. Lorenzana spent his childhood in Northern California before undergraduate education at Harvard University and medical school at the University of Southern California. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University and fellowship at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center. Following his Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship, Dr Lorenzana additionally completed a travelling fellowship in Europe, studying under internationally recognized experts in sports injuries of the upper extremity, microvascular surgery, arthroscopy, and shoulder surgery.
He holds diverse interests outside of medicine that inform his holistic approach to patient care. He prioritizes empathy and patient education, drawing on years of teaching and leadership experience as a course instructor, tutor, student body president and team captain of track and field and boxing clubs. He is also a masters level biomedical engineer, avid woodworker and occasional musician.
His clinical and research interests include upper extremity trauma, microvascular surgery, arthroscopic treatment of wrist and shoulder conditions, and shoulder arthroplasty.

Professional and easy to understand when discussing injury and explanation
Outstanding compassion and bedside manner. His skills as a Dr are impressive, as are his empathy and concern for his patients. It was an unfortunate event that brought me to his care, but I am truly lucky I was cared for by Dr Lorenzana.
Thorough in communication. As a patient I felt comfortable in general. Injection was as expected.

Following an emergency thumb reattachment surgery, I can say without hesitation that the care I received from Dr. Lorenzana was exceptional. He was skilled, thorough, and took time to clearly explain the procedure and recovery expectations, which made a stressful situation far more manageable. The staff was equally impressive - consistently attentive, compassionate, and professional at every step of the process. I would recommend Dr. Lorenzana and his practice to anyone in need of specialized hand surgery without a moment's hesitation.
Dr. Lorenzano is very likable, and explains his processes and options completely. As a result, unfortunately waiting and exam room times go way longer than the scheduled appointment time.

Dr Lorenzana is one of the best. Just scheduled my second reverse shoulder surgery. He's patient, and explains everything. He's not pushy and he listens. I highly recommend him.
