He then pursued his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, graduating in 1985 with honors and membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Fagel continued his medical journey with a residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1985 to 1988, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology from 1988 to 1991. His extensive training laid the foundation for his expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of GI conditions.
Throughout his career, Dr. Fagel has earned numerous awards, including the St. Elizabeth Medical Staff Teacher of the Year (five times) and the Visiting Nurse Association Heart and Hands Award in 2014.
