I had a problem post knee surgery. My Dr is Dr Thomas. I called today and was told to come in at 11:15. When I arrived at Banner Gateway I was told the appointment was at Mercy Gilbert. The receptionist was nice enough to go back and see if another Knee Dr would see me. Dr Kohima was kind enough to fit me into her schedule and took very good care of me. I can’t thank enough.

Let me tell you something - I was so surprised to see her when she came in, I had forgotten how kind she was when I had my knee replaced by her as the surgeon. My wife recognized her right away and told me that's your surgeon. After a while, I realized it was her. Thank you for doing such a great job with my knee as it hasn't given me any serious problems since I had it done.

Dr. Kooima spent a lot of time with me discussing the injury to my knee, the short and long-term effects, and the short and long-term treatment options. She was patient and answered all my questions. I felt very comfortable with her advice, and that she wasn’t pushing me one way or the other.

People skills need improvement. After telling her where my pain was, she chastised me stating I didn’t tell her that. Why would I go to the doc and not be able to articulate why I’m there in the first place? She pretty much insisted it was a pinched nerve in my neck until the X-rays proved her wrong. I don’t like docs who think they know it all, don’t listen well, and are heartless. Took me two days to get over the pain she caused by moving my arm all over the place. I am following through with her suggestions to get an injection and PT after it if the injection works. But I will not see her again. Very disappointed.

Dr Kooima is very thorough and informative about every step of the process of knee replacement surgery. I prepared for the worst and was so pleasantly surprised that everything went without a hitch!

I was really happy with this doctor. She was very thorough and looked for other avenues for my pain when my knee X-ray looked okay. Following a hip X-ray she referred me to a dr specializing in the hip. I have had other doctors look at my knee and not look any further. Now I know that the pain in my knee is caused from the hip which I had also been having issues with. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to her if I have knee issues in the future.

On my first visit ( I have not had a need for an Orthopedic surgeon before) Dr. Kooima took the time to review my MRI, time to explain what she saw in the MRI while I was looking at the results, explained the typical treatment for my condition, was able to joke with me and my wife, took the time to get to know me and how my newly acquired frozen shoulder effects my work building engines. I was completely satisfied with my services!

Dr Kooima answered all my questions. No surprises and she is very prompt.

Arrived 15 minutes before check in time. Waited 90 minutes to be seen in the patient room. The dr. was running behind so saw Clayton, the PA. He was was fine, relaxed, explained what was going on , got a cortisone shot with no follow-up appointment necessary. Office was very large and lots of patients waiting. Not one of the staff introduced themselves to my husband or I, the patient. Was underwhelmed at this facility.

It’s a relief to know she is there if I ever need her again and at my age, 73, I probably will.

I have seen Dr Kooima a couple of times, and have no need of surgery so can't rate her skills there (hence the 4-star rating.)
