Sadly, she did not seem to care that I was crying in her office at one point during the appointment. She just talking as I was crying, did not pause to ask if I was okay. She seemed unequipped and not knowledgeable about handling a patient’s mental health crisis—very surprising for a specialty that related to women’s health, with all the mood changes that occur with pregnancy, hormones, etc. Shouldn’t OBGYN be the most equipped about women’s mental health? My original Dr, Dr. Warner would have asked me to take a depression screening test and would have most likely stopped speaking to make sure I was emotionally okay. I did not feel like this provider would know what to do if I were having a peri- or postpartum depressive episode in her office. I was having a small break down literally in front of her, and she did not pause but instead kept talking. The medical assistant that I asked to join the appointment did not try to help or comfort me either. Only the nurse, Lily, helped me.
