Originally from the Northeast, Dr. Ackerman graduated with highest distinction from Penn State University’s Schreyer Honors College. He went on to receive his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society for his academic excellence and leadership.
During medical school, Dr. Ackerman participated in multiple research projects with The Rothman Institute, presenting his work at both regional and national conferences. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Following residency, Dr. Ackerman pursued advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the renowned Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A former athlete himself, Dr. Ackerman developed his passion for orthopedics through a lifelong appreciation for movement, performance, and the importance of maintaining functional extremities. His practice philosophy centers on patient-centered care, emphasizing a holistic, individualized approach to diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ackerman enjoys hiking, traveling, skiing, photography, and spending quality time with his wife and family.

Dr. Ackerman has a great bedside manner. He explained my X-rays as he showed them to me. He talked about injections and a wrist brace and topical creams. I got an injection and also a wrist brace.
My experience was amazing. He is super polite. He advised me on what was going on from start to finish. He answered all my questions and made me feel that my recovery well be great. Also Bre, his assistant did a marvelous job in helping me.
Dr. Ackerman is an asset to Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics. I was well pleased with my carpal tunnel surgery. His bedside manner of compassion and being easy to talk to was an added bonus.
