Dr. Calderón trained as a surgical retina fellow at the Vitreoretinal Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee. She then went on to work in La Crosse, Wisconsin for 6 years, where she ran the largest county hospital’s retina service, treating complex medical and surgical retinal conditions in addition to providing surgical outreach services for neighboring counties in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
Dr. Calderón is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. She completed undergraduate art and science studies at Wellesley University in Massachusetts, then going on to post-baccalaureate coursework in Biochemistry, Energetics & Endocrinology, Cancer Biology, Neuroscience, and Cell & Molecular Biology at City College in New York City. She then went on to graduate from medical school at Stony Brook University School of Medicine SUNY and an internship at Winthrop University Hospital in Long Island. In continuing training, she then completed residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York beginning in 2010. There she diagnosed and treated a large diversity of patients with complex ophthalmological conditions as she provided emergency ophthalmology services to all the hospitals of the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island while also serving as Chief Resident of her program in 2013.
Dr. Calderón returned East to be close to her extended family in Northern New Jersey. She is excited to have joined the Retina Center of New Jersey to provide excellent care to her community. Dr Calderón’s additional interests include traveling and art (she is a skilled painter).
