Dr. Christopher Meckel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and co-founder of Monterey Spine and Joint, where he is recognized as the hip and knee replacement specialist.
His expertise in joint replacement surgery allows for minimally invasive anterior total hip replacements and minimally invasive, computer-assisted knee replacements.
He completed his undergraduate degree in medical anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley and earned his Master of Science degree in the biological sciences from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Meckel was a Dean’s Scholar at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine and received his medical doctorate degree in 1996. He completed a general surgical internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center.
Dr. Meckel pursued advanced training in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and joint reconstruction in a Fellowship with the AOS Medical Center in Glendale, Calif., where he joined a team of physicians pioneering the latest techniques in anterior total hip replacements and computer-assisted total knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Meckel is an associate Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, a member of the University of Southern California Graduate Orthopedic Society, and is one of the team physicians for California State University Monterey Bay.
Dr. Meckel was raised in Carmel and graduated from Carmel High School in 1984. He happily returned to the Monterey Peninsula In 2003.

Amazing provider and surgeon. Dr. Meckel and his team are well organized, very responsive, extremely knowledgeable, and caring. Dr. Meckel replaced my R hip and it has been a pleasant experience. I am so grateful to have chosen him as my orthopedic surgeon.

He is everything I had hoped for after my research to find an Orthopedic Surgeon, specializing in hip & knee replacement, with an extensive background in complications during/after surgery due to various, even multiple forms, of arthritis. His advice was comprehensive and spot on. I would recommend Dr. Meckel, and his staff, to anyone in need of an orthopedic hip specialist.
Dr. Meckel did a great job on my knee replacement surgery. Plus his entire team is caring and professional. So Happy it is done…and done well.

This is my second time I will have Dr. Meckel is my orthopedic. He was referred to me by many friends and others and does excellent work. He is patient, kind, respectful, and compassionate but direct he will not beat around the bush with you. I have and continue to recommend him to as many people as I can and have passed out his business card as well. He did my left knee replacement and I have not had any problems with that knee since 😃 Great surgeon that’s all I can say about Dr. Christopher Meckel!
He is an excellent surgeon. I followed his instructions and everything is great. The Force Program was great. He answered questions within an hour!

Dr Meckel is very good. He replaced my left hip about 5 years ago and I have had zero pain ever since. He listens carefully and has helpful suggestions. I highly recommend him
