Dr. Champ L. Baker III, M.D. earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta before going on to complete his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Prior to joining the Hughston Clinic, Dr. Baker completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and worked on the medical staff of the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, and Depaul University. Dr. Baker was granted the Certificate of added Qualification in Sports Medicine in 2012 by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and re-certified in 2019. He is currently the head team physician for the Central High School Red Devils in Phenix City, AL, Pacelli High School Vikings in Columbus, GA, and the head team physician for the Columbus State University Cougars.
Dr. Baker is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His specialties include arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine with a special interest in cartilage restoration.

Dr. Baker is the best, great bedside manner, takes plenty of time to explain what he has done and what needs to be done, and the wait time is very little

He was very nice. He explained everything where I could understand. He gave me another option to try before surgery.
Very precise he didn't him all around. I was in and out. Did not have to wait long periods of time before getting straight to the possible reasons and arrangements for tests to get exactly the answers we needed to move forward.
