Dr. Catherine Kilmartin

Dr. Catherine Kilmartin, M.D., grew up in Millis, MA and attended UMass Amherst for college. She spent a semester abroad in Australia studying at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. Upon graduating, she realized she wanted more real-world experience, and taught middle school science in the South Bronx with Teach for America, while completing a Master's Degree in Education at Pace University in New York. Teaching was some of the most rewarding work she has done. However, her ultimate goal was her childhood dream of becoming a doctor. After three years of teaching, she moved on to medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

Dr. Kilmartin completed a general surgery residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. While taking care of complex general surgery patients requiring reconstruction, she realized her love of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Kilmartin was able to spend six weeks studying micro surgery with international colleagues, and with internationally known microsurgeon Professor Fu-Chan Wei, during her general surgery tenure at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. She was involved in research during that time and has several publications involving both limb and sternal wound reconstruction.

After completing her general surgery residency, Dr. Kilmartin moved on to her second residency in the specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She continued to be active in research and has published research on pain perception and desmoid tumors in breast reconstruction.

In her down time, Dr. Kilmartin likes to hike, enjoy good food and drinks with her husband and friends, and be outside with her family. She is thrilled to return to Massachusetts to raise her family in the north shore community.
