Dr Sullivan has always displayed thorough competence and thorough knowledge of my orthopedic injury towards recovery. Including professionalism though with a personal friendliness and caring. He is my orthopedic go to!!!

Dr Sullivan definitely has my upmost respect as how he explains my condition and the options going forward. He’s one of a kind vs. previous Ortho doctors in and out of this local area. Previous doctors had surgery as the only means to repair a torn meniscus although it was last resort with Dr. Sullivan and I’m pleased to announce that all is going well with follow ups and physical therapy. 18 months later, I’m still active and continuing travel, play golf and care for others as well as work in sales.

Dr. Brian D. Sullivan, D.O. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon providing care to patients in our Hickory and Newton locations. Dr. Sullivan is a local who was born and raised in Conover, NC. He attended Newton-Conover High School and went on to graduate from Lenoir-Rhyne University with degrees in biology and chemistry. He became passionate about the medical field and sports medicine as a student-athlete during high school and college.

Dr. Sullivan completed his medical degree at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He went on to complete his orthopedic training at the OhioHealth Orthopedic Residency Program, which consisted of multiple hospitals including Grant Medical Center, a level one trauma center. After finishing his general orthopedic training, he went on to further subspecialize in orthopedic sports medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. While completing his fellowship, he was a team physician for the Houston SaberCats professional rugby team. After completing his training, he worked in Snellville, Georgia. There he was a team physician for the Gwinnett Gladiators professional hockey team in the ECHL.

His practice includes general orthopedics with specialty training in sports medicine. He enjoys working with athletes of all ages and walks of life. His practice revolves around his patient’s goals. “I want to get people back to doing the activities they enjoy. It is important to stay active. My goal is to treat patients’ orthopedic issues so they can return to their favorite activity, whether it be getting a professional athlete back to their sport or a recreational golfer back to walking the course without pain.” He has special interest in shoulder and knee surgeries and performs minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures and total joint replacements.

Dr. Sullivan is thrilled to be back in his hometown and excited to serve the community he was raised in. In his spare time, you can find Dr. Sullivan enjoying our community’s local restaurants, farmers markets, and parks with his wife and two young boys. He also enjoys hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and spending time on the lake with his family.
