Dr. Brett A. Wilhoit is a Sports Medicine and Non-operative orthopaedic physician with Collier Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center. Dr. Wilhoit enjoys treating patients of all ages for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. He has a special interest in Regenerative Medicine utilizing the latest technologies to help patients restore or establish normal function. Various therapies are available including ultrasound-guided injections with autologous conditioned plasma (platelet-rich plasma), bone marrow aspirate concentration or amnion injections (stem cell).
Dr. Wilhoit was raised in Johnson City, TN., and attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. He was a 4-year letterman on the football team while earning a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration with minors in Biology and Chemistry. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed fellowship training at the esteemed American Sports Medicine Institute and Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, AL. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and American College of Sports Medicine, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine with a Certification of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Wilhoit is the team physician for Florida Gulf Coast University, Gulf Coast High School, and First Baptist Academy. He has previously served medically with both collegiate and professional teams including University of Alabama, Troy University, Auburn University, Birmingham Barons baseball, Birmingham Hammers and Charleston Battery soccer clubs. In addition, he has provided event medical coverage for SEC baseball, NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, as well as numerous endurance events including marathons and triathlon races.
Dr. Wilhoit loves spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors. His passion for sports and competitions has continued beyond the collegiate football years with current interest in competitive endurance events and recreational soccer, golf, and tennis.
