My my 13 year old son was injured during a football game so he had some damage to his knee, and the doctor took the time to explain to him with the understanding that as an athlete how the injury can affect him if he doesn't take care of it properly. I respected the fact that he's spoke to the child in a manner a child can understand he also took time to explain to me as a parent so that we were all in the same understanding

Dr. Owens and his team have been exceptional!! Very thorough. He took his time to explain everything and answered all questions we had regarding our daughter's surgery. His surgical coordinator was amazing and very patient with all our additional questions and getting everything we needed.

Dr. Owens was fantastic when we brought our daughter to see him after a knee injury playing sports at a local University. His exam was very thorough and he answered questions in a way that was easy for my daughter to understand.

Dr. Brett D. Owens is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, specializing in arthroscopic repair of sports-related injuries as well as complex knee and shoulder reconstructions. A Rhode Island native, he was recruited to University Orthopedics after serving as the Chief of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Keller Army Hospital at West Point, NY, where he cared for soldiers and cadets at the United States Military Academy and was Team Physician for the Army lacrosse, rugby, and football teams. While deployed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, LTC Owens served as Chief of Orthopedics at the 86th Combat Support Hospital.
Dr. Owens serves as Director of the Rhode Island Cartilage Repair Center, the Director of Sports Medicine at Miriam Hospital, and Director of Sports Medicine Research at Brown. He is currently Team Physician for Brown University and the Providence Bruins. He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Brown University, Alpert School of Medicine. He also serves as Associate Editor for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Owens was named by fellow orthopedists in Orthopedics This Week as one of the “Top 28 North American Knee Surgeons” in 2014. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, given over 300 national or international presentations, edited 3 textbooks on orthopedic injuries. His research has garnered 5 major awards from the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
