Dr. Brandon K. Kimbrel, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in Arthroscopic & Reconstructive Surgery of the Elbow, Shoulder, Hip & Knee (Robotics) & Orthopedic Sports Medicine. A native of Texas, Dr. Kimbrel earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch before completing his orthopedic residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He then chose to elevate his training even further with an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the highly selective and world-renowned American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. During this time he served as a team physician for the Auburn Tigers and the Birmingham Barons, AA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
Dr. Kimbrel grew up in the small town of Cameron, Texas and went on to play baseball at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. During this time he underwent multiple orthopedic surgeries, including Tommy John. This experience with orthopedic medicine lead him to his career in orthopedic sports medicine, as he has intimate knowledge of returning to sport post injury. In his early college years, Dr. Kimbrel was a distinguished baseball player for Sam Houston State, where he developed and nurtured his appreciation for the conditioning and care of athletes and treatment of athletic injuries. During his collegiate field time, he earned the title of both Most Valuable Pitcher and Most Valuable Player, as well as being selected as a member of the Capitol One Academic All-American Baseball Team. He was also selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the Major League Baseball draft.
Outside of his practice with Louisiana Orthopedic Specialists, Dr. Kimbrel enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and black Lab, playing guitar, fishing, golf and mastering the art of BBQ.
