Dr. Freilich joins Retina Center of New Jersey after practicing as a retina specialist in a solo private practice setting for the past 13 years. Prior to that Dr. Freilich was a retina specialist on the full time faculty at The State University of New York-Downstate College of Medicine, and subsequently at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he is still Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. At Mount Sinai he was recognized on two occasions as "Teacher of the Year".
Dr. Freilich graduated with a BA in Biology from The University of Chicago. He earned his MD degree from The State University of New York-Downstate College of Medicine where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was elected to The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He went on to do an internship in Internal Medicine followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Freilich completed a 2 year fellowship in medical and surgical retina at The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as well as a retina research fellowship at The Schepens Eye Research Institute, both of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Freilich is board-certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology, is a Fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a member of The American Society of Retina Specialists.
Dr. Freilich served in the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Commander. He was the Flight Surgeon for VFC-12, a US Navy F-18 fighter squadron based at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, VA.
Dr. Freilich was born and raised in New York City. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, and has two sons. Outside of work Dr. Freilich enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, ice hockey, and running.

Dr. Freilich is an amazing man!!! I am so grateful to him for his expertise and skill in dealing with my macular degeneration problem. My left eye was affected and I was fearful that my vision would become worse. Dr. Freilich and his wonderful staff tested my eyes thoroughly and I received my diagnosis of macular degeneration that had japparently begun in that eye. I have seen the doctor only a few times now and find that my vision has improved to such a great extent that I now am able to see with near normal vision!!! I am absolutely thankful that I saw Dr. Freilich at his Teaneck office and recommend him highly to everyone experiencing any difficulty with their eyesight..,my eyesight has been saved!!! Many, many thanks!!!
