Dr. Antigone Argyriou, M.D., FAAPMR, is a double-board-certified pain management specialist. She offers cutting-edge, minimally invasive solutions for acute and chronic pain to help patients restore function, improve quality of life, and get lasting relief.
Pain management physician Dr. Antigone Argyriou takes a patient-first, multimodal approach to treating pain. Simply put, she addresses the many different factors that contribute to pain and dysfunction, rather than focusing on just one.
With advanced training in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and interventional pain medicine, Dr. Argyriou develops personalized care plans that combine the safest, most effective therapies for each patient’s unique needs. This might include targeted injections, rehabilitation strategies, lifestyle recommendations, and other minimally invasive treatments designed to restore function and improve quality of life.
Her expertise includes epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, platelet-rich plasma injections and more. Whether addressing neck pain, back pain, joint pain, or nerve-related discomfort, Dr. Argyriou’s goal is to help patients return to active living without major surgery.
Dr. Antigone Argyriou attended medical school at Saba University and completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center, where she was honored with the Intern of the Year Award.
She then went on to complete her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, serving as chief resident in her final year. Following residency, Dr. Argryriou pursued a fellowship in Pain Medicine and later obtained certification in medical acupuncture.
Dr. Argyriou has consistently demonstrated leadership and dedication beyond her practice. She is very active in advocacy work and is a past president of the New York State Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
She was appointed to the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) Reimbursement Policy and Regulatory Affairs Committee and currently serves as the alternate CPT advisor for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation for the American Medical Association. More recently, she was appointed to the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society’s Advocacy and Coding and Reimbursement Committee.
At a local level, she serves on the Board of the Suffolk County Medical Society, where she plays an active role in public education, community service, and health advocacy. She serves as a delegate to the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) and its House of Delegates. In this role, she represents the voices of local doctors, reviews proposals for changes in healthcare policy, and helps shape the official positions of the state medical society by debating ideas and voting on measures that can directly impact how medicine is practiced and how patients receive care across New York State.
Before joining Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island, Dr. Argyriou worked at a large neurology practice where she spearheaded the pain medicine program and served as Director of Pain Management. She has since continued to expand access to advanced, non-surgical pain solutions to help patients overcome debilitating conditions and regain their independence.
In her spare time, it’s important to Dr. Argyriou that she practices what she preaches by staying healthy and active. She’s interested in the anti-inflammatory diet and likes to explore new, delicious, but healthy recipes.
She also indulges her athletic side by going to the gym, swimming, walking her dog, riding her bike, and, most recently, coaching a girls’ youth basketball team. When relaxing, you can find her reading fiction novels and doing puzzles.
