I felt he was rushed when he was with me. And it was 1 hour 30 minutes past my appointment. He did give me injections and I had had them from somewhere else before and never hurt afterwards like this.

Love him as a doctor, he is personable, attentive, knowledgeable but he has so many patients you always have a long wait to be seen. Today I had a 9:30 appointment and didn't get called back till 10:45. That is out of his control yet Othor East aught to address it.

My pet tripped me & I had bruising on my left hip & stabbing pain there. No fracture on xray. Gave me steroid dosepak & said take anti-inflammatori3s. No relief after 2 days. Still have severe pain. Plus, I fractured my lower left ribs around 8 weeks ago & I was worried that I had re-injured them. This issue wasn't even addressed. I'm a,retired FNP & I don’t seek pain meds unless I'm really in pain. Plan to see my family doctor Monday. Dr. Skalak seemed like a nice man & I didn't want to give him a poor rating, but I feel as if I wasted my time & money with that appointment!

The level empathy and concern for my pain was felt immediately and any recommendations and or treatment plans proscribed, would’ve been followed eagerly.

One of the best and most professional Doctors I have EVER SEEN! Knows his $&@! and helps you get back to your regular life fast! Owen Davis and Dr. Skalak are modern day Batman and Robins, Starski and Hutches, Crocket and Tubs, Superman and Superwoman ect. I can go on and on, thanks to the staff also for being so kind and friendly during a low point in my life. Thanks to the team, I’m back after a short 13 week post op surgery! Yaaaahooooo!

He is very nice and competent.

The only question he asked me was my history with what was going on. He talked about what he thought would help, gave me a paper for bloodwork, and left. He did not explain any x-rays that I had just gotten. He did not ask me more specific questions about my history with what I am dealing with. I had more questions before he left. I had to ask the staff who came in after he left to speak to him again. I had to ask about work accommodations and if there was anyway he could fill out a form for me so I can sit down at work. I understand if they are unable to fill out this paperwork, that is okay. But he stared at me like I was stupid and said that he had no idea what I was talking about and that they didn’t do things like that there. I understand that it is busy and there are many patients to get through, but I paid to get seen and checked out and talked to about my pain, but he didn’t even examine me, talk about my x-ray (until he came back), or even ask more than 1 question.

Doctor visit went great he told me what I needed to know. But check in was a joke. Do not like the new check in procedure or check out procedures yall where so much better before.

Appointment was at 2:30....was seen by doctor after 4:30. Took x-rays of shoulder but never discussed them, he seemed rushed and in a hurry because it was the end of the day. Didn't do any real test to see what the problem was, no real interest in finding out my injury history, I was not impressed. He spoke with me less than 10 minutes. He might have seen 100 patients that day with a shoulder injury, but it was my first. No bed side compassion, not impressed. He might be knowledgeable but I will be moving on.

Highly skill down to earth surgeon who takes time to answer all the questions I had

I visited Dr. Skalak about and he was supposed to order me cream and that was never received by me. Plus, the examination was rushed. My husband Ronell Rodgers visited this doctor and my best friend Effie Thompson, we all had the same opinion of our office visit with Dr. Skalak.

After a long wait, I still would rate him a 5. He knows his job and he does it well. Doctor/patient interaction is excellent. I don’t feel rushed when it’s my turn.

Great with my concerns, listens, explains what he sees, and gives a plan in the future to ensure my issues.

He mentioned prescribing lyrica or gabepentin but when I checked with my pharmacy CVS at 6:10 , they had no record of it being called in . So either he changed his thought for treatment, or he will await the Cervical spine MRI results to prescribe it or he forgot it . So I will see what happens over next 24 hours . My pain & activity level is manageable with the baclofen I was prescribed from Physician East Urgent care . He was informative .

Dr. Skalak is the best I am so glad I found him ..I drive from out of town to see him it’s definitely worth the drive. he did arthroscopic surgery on my knee, he took out torn meniscus, arthritis, and a gangling cyst that had formed behind all that and it was between the bones pushing on everything…. today marks three weeks since my surgery and other than working out the stiffness And doing PT my knee feels way better…I’m back to work part time and doing some yardwork too!! I have seen a doctor in my town for four years with no progress or had good results I have been a patient of Dr. Skalak for about six months now and He solved my problem and I’m feeling 90% better right now I would recommend him to anyone having knee and hip pain. He knows what he’s stuff plus he made me feel comfortable and safe with him in charge …I love him and his staff they are the best!!

I am retired and recently found out that I needed my right hip replaced. Several of my friends had hips replaced and suggested that I see if minimally invasive(anterior) hip replacement was an option for me. After speaking with my primary care physician I found out that Dr. Skalak at Orthopedics East in Greenville performed the procedure and that I could have the procedure done at ECU Health(Vidant). I was relieved that I didn’t need to travel and stay overnight at a hospital in Raleigh/Durham. Orthopedics’ East had also very successfully replaced both of my knees at Vidant. I had a great experience with Dr, Skalak and his team. My surgery and recovery over the past two months have gone very well. It’s wonderful to be able to sleep, walk and do my daily activities again without pain. I recently found out that Dr, Skalak has done over a thousand of the minimally invasive surgeries and if my left hip needs replacing he will be performing the surgery.

Mr. Skalak was very professional. He took the time to explain my procedure, and then performed the medical procedure. Plus, I did not have to wait for a long period of time. Their staff was professional as well.

Dr.Skalak is always up front with you and he genuinely cares about your well-being. But most of all he's a good listener.

Dr. Skalak seems very knowledgeable and on the same page with me…..letting surgery be the last decision. My 1st time consultation with him about having replacement knee surgery didn’t quite meet Mt expectations because I have been through the 1st and 2nd injections. Didn’t do the 3rd because I saw no results. I wasn’t convinced that injections do not cause bone deterioration. He didn’t explain enough about my waiting time could cause until I have surgery. We agree that I research on the jell injections and can discuss it with him if that’s what I want to try first. I personally felt that I caught him in a “rush time” to catch up with his patients. I don’t know how to rate him because I still at about the same ??? about me having or needing a knee replacement now or what are the odds of having it done later.

I saw him for two appointments both times I had to wait over an hour and when I finally went back he was in the room less than 2 minutes I felt very rushed and had no time to ask questions and the treatment plan he had given me I feel to be pointless and not understanding how it will help with the constant and intense pain I am in.

Dr Skalak is a great dr, but today I got a cortisone shot in my wrist and my wrist has hurt as bad tonight as when I fractured it. This is like the 4th injection that I have had and it has never been like this. I had to take some Tylenol and that didn’t help. I finally had to take some stronger pain medicine to get some rest for work tomorrow. My name is Gwen Wade in case someone wants to call me tomorrow.

I think that he is a very caring and professional doctor I think he really cares about his patience and I am proud that he is my doctor and pleased

My experience was not good. Felt like just another number in the long assembly line of patients. Time management is horrible. Would not let tech take stitches until he came in room. He was running over an hour late. Never saw him after the surgery. Always feels like he is rushing.

Every single appointment I’ve had with Dr. Skalak, I had to wait at least one and a half to two hours to see him. When Dr. Skalak comes into the exam room to see me, he is only there for about two minutes. He is a great doctor and surgeon but he does not take his patients time into consideration.

Everyone is always so pleasant and professional, from check in to check out and everything in between.

Quick and to the point. I could tell he was extra busy but he made sure I knew what the issue with my knees was and how he was going to tackle it going forward. Solution oriented doctor. Thanks a bunch!

My only comment is the lack of quality time I received as a patient. So far I’m happy with the outcome of my surgery but I wish that I knew more about what to expect post surgery. The high level of swelling in my hip and thigh was not anticipated but I think I’m getting control of it by continuing PT and icing it down afterward.

Dr. Skalak provided great feedback with an honest and professional opinion, with a treatment plan and follow up, that was in line with my diagnosis. Dr. Skalak provided an alternative to surgery, which I choose to explore, before an invasive procedure with an extensive recovery.
