Dr. Anthony de Beus, M.D., was born in Antwerp, Belgium, but grew up on the East Coast of the United States where he obtained his undergraduate degree (B.S.) in Engineering at Yale University, his Masters degree (M.S.) in Engineering at Columbia University and his MD and Ph.D degrees from the combined program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine/CUNY in New York City. He stayed on at Mount Sinai Hospital for an internship in Internal Medicine.
After ten years in Manhattan, Dr. de Beus completed his ophthalmology residency at the Duke University Eye Center in Durham, North Carolina and then went to the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA for his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery. He was in private practice for over twenty years in Arizona, based out of Phoenix, but frequently traveled throughout the state to serve the rural population and participated in the Arizona Trauma Service. Dr de Beus made several trips to Cameroon and Kenya providing care and skills transfers during that time.
In more recent years Dr. de Beus participated in multiple clinical trials in St Louis for the latest developments in retinal treatments of diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration, then continued his commitment to care of the underserved in East Los Angeles. His work is published in medical and scientific journals as well as presented at national meetings. Dr de Beus endeavors to bring his long and varied experience to provide compassionate and skilled, medical and surgical care to his patients.
