Dr. Aniruddh Patel, M.D., is a gastroenterologist whose interest in the field began as an undergraduate student researching the causes of cachexia in mice with colon cancer. He grew up in Gujarat, India, and moved with his family to Greenville, SC, at age 13.
He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in Charleston, SC. His training in Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine provided him with the confidence to treat patients with multi-system disorders. He then pursued a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Louisville Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
Dr. Patel’s clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening, acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, functional GI disorders, and enteral access. He is trained in upper and lower endoscopy. Dr. Patel feels honored to provide medical and emotional comfort to his patients, whether their condition is as benign as viral gastroenteritis or as serious as colon cancer. He also loves the opportunity to expand his knowledge in this field continually.
If he were not a physician, Dr. Patel would have pursued a career in Nutritional Science due to his interest in severe illnesses causing malnutrition. In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys playing his guitar, golfing, hiking, and spending time with his family.
