Dr. Andrew Thome, M.D., cares for adult and adolescent patients and athletes with both common and complex injuries and disorders of the foot and ankle. He has a particular clinical interest in foot and ankle trauma/sports injuries, including fractures and tendon injuries, deformities such as flatfoot deformity, cavovarus deformity, bunions and hammertoes, as well as arthritis of the foot and ankle including total ankle replacement.
Dr. Thome completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training and an orthopaedic trauma surgery fellowship at Brown University in Providence, RI, and then pursued an orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX with Dr. James Brodsky. Dr. Thome was in practice as an Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis for three years prior to joining South Shore Orthopedics.
Dr. Thome's research interests center around improving patient outcomes and optimizing patient's recovery. Some of his research has included determining optimal techniques for fracture fixation using biomechanical models in the lab as well as clinical outcomes research looking at opioid use following total ankle replacement to help determine risk factors for prolonged opioid use after total ankle to help minimize side effects and the potential for dependency, as well as determining the risk factors for the development of arthritis. Dr. Thome has also authored several book chapters and continues to pursue evidence-based medicine. He is actively involved with the AOFAS (American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) and AOA (American Orthopaedic Association) as an Emerging Leader.

Professional and explains situation
Very knowledgeable and easy going… was a pleasure having him as my doctor.
Dr. Thome has provided this far me with excellent, expert care for my broken ankle. He performed emergency surgery, and wrapped it in an amazing splint, which has kept it very safe. He has a pleasant, warm demeanor, and is completely professional. My questions were answered without hesitation. I feel that I am in excellent care.
Dr.Thome took the time to explain my situation and he gave me useful feedback with both pros and cons of the various treatments.
I was booked under Dr. Thome who I have seen in the past and he was great! Today I ended up with Mackenzie Cyr PA-C and she addressed all my concerns and helped me come up with a plan for my ankle. Thank you!

I hurt my back a couple years ago. I broke my hip a couple years before that. After the back, I broke a toe... and about 17 years before today, I broke my foot. This has all happened to the same leg and the nerve damage from the back injury is also.. yup, the right leg.
