Dr. Illig trained at two of New York City’s most prestigious institutions, completing his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the renowned Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation at NYU, followed by a fellowship in Orthopedic Spine and Sports Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center. He went on to build a thriving practice over 14 years at a leading multispecialty group spanning Stamford, Connecticut, and Westchester, New York, where he served as Department Chair — a reflection of the trust and respect he earned from both colleagues and patients.
A Southern California native and UCSD graduate, Dr. Illig earned his medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and is now proud to bring his expertise home. His osteopathic training gives him a uniquely whole-body perspective on pain and recovery.
Dr. Illig is fluent in Spanish, making him an accessible and welcoming provider for San Diego’s diverse community. Outside the office, he enjoys surfing, traveling, and cooking — giving him a genuine appreciation for the active lifestyle his patients want to get back to.
