He earned his MD with high honors from Ross University and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic, where he was appointed chief medical resident and received numerous accolades.

During his time at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Heckman held significant administrative leadership roles, including positions on the Medical Ethics Committee and the Hospital Practice Subcommittee, while actively contributing to quality improvement initiatives. His dedication to advancing healthcare through education and research led to the publication of multiple peer-reviewed articles and earned him the esteemed academic title of Assistant Professor.
Dr. Heckman completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Clinic, where he conducted research in mechanical circulatory support for advanced heart failure and cardiogenic shock, artificial intelligence, critical care, and interventional cardiology. His commitment to patient care was recognized with the Mayo Clinic Patient Satisfaction Award for providing high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care.
Dr. Heckman completed an advanced fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Knight Cardiovascular Institute at the Oregon Health and Science University, training under leading experts in the management of complex coronary artery and valvular diseases.
Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, Dr. Heckman is an active member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, continually contributing to the field of cardiology and patient care.
