Dr. Alexa Medica, M.D., FACOG, is a highly accomplished Reproductive Medicine Specialist who is committed to the holistic care of her patients – mind, body and soul. Having gone through her own infertility journey, she recognizes the challenges and range of emotions that come with it. Her passion for people and love for family coupled with her commitment to providing personalized care makes her a valuable asset to her patients.

Dr. Medica completed her medical education at the prestigious UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where she earned her MD degree. Following this, she pursued her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she gained extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in the field. She further specialized in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) through a fellowship program at UCSD, under the guidance of Dr. Irene Su, a renowned expert in the field.

Throughout her career, Dr. Medica has actively contributed to the advancement of reproductive medicine through her research and publications. Her work has been featured in reputable scientific journals, including PLoS One, Psychoneuroendocrinology, and Fertility and Sterility. Dr. Medica’s research has focused on various aspects of reproductive health, including the impact of genetic polymorphisms on gastrointestinal symptoms and brain changes in irritable bowel syndrome, identifying proteomic changes and the molecular signatures of poor ovarian responders to IVF, and the characterization of reproductive aging in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.

In addition to her research contributions, Dr. Medica has presented her findings at numerous national conferences, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, where she has received recognition for her outstanding research posters and oral presentations. She is an active member of professional and scientific societies, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Dr. Medica’s commitment to education and teaching is evident through her involvement in various teaching activities. She has served as a Small-Group Leader at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), facilitating sessions on genetics for medical students. At UCSD, she has lectured on topics such as the uterine microbiota, gestational age-appropriate studies, human genome editing and obstetric and pelvic floor disorders.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Medica is dedicated to giving back to her community. She and her husband oversee their church’s kids’ service every Sunday, pouring into the lives of the volunteers and children. They also lead a family-centered Bible study together, and our committed to the joy and prosperity of the families in their community. In the past, she has volunteered at organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Activity Center, Orangewood Children’s Home, and the Salvation Army, making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Dr. Alexa Medica is not only a dedicated Reproductive Medicine Specialist but also a loving wife, devoted mother to her two small children, loyal friend and leader in her community. She understands the importance of hard work and lives by the mantra “your best is expected; your best is enough.” She relentlessly pursues the good in others, energizing every room that she walks in with an undeniable joy and peace. In her leisure time, Dr. Medica enjoys engaging with people and her community. She will often be found running around the bay with her kids in tow. Dr. Medica is passionate about outdoor activities and frequently enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, swimming, and exploring nature’s beauty.

Throughout her life, she has played soccer at the highest level with the national team, battled autoimmune illness, supported her husband in his career as a professional athlete, overcome infertility, and maintained beautiful, deep, lasting friendships. This breath of life experiences and challenges makes her uniquely suited to understand and empathize with individuals and couples seeking to build their families.
