Dr. Akshay Kamath

Dr. Akshay Kamath is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and structural heart disease specialist. His primary clinical and research focus is the minimally invasive catheter-based treatment of valvular heart disease and complex coronary artery disease. In addition to percutaneous coronary intervention (stent procedures), his expertise includes transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement (e.g. MitraClip), transcatheter tricuspid valve repair and replacement, PFO/ASD/PVL closure, left atrial appendage occlusion (e.g. WATCHMAN), and mechanical circulatory support. He has additional interests in clinical trials and medical device development. His care philosophy emphasizes collaboration, education of his patients and their families, and an individualized assessment of risk and benefit prior to any health decision.

Dr. Kamath was born in White Plains, NY and grew up in New Jersey. After earning his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia and fellowship in cardiology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. He then underwent two years of further subspecialty training in interventional and structural cardiology at the University of California, Davis prior to joining CCA. He has published and presented research in major cardiovascular journals and national meetings. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, and Nuclear Cardiology.
