Dr. Starr is an Exceptional surgeon with a bedside manner that is equally Exceptional! He and his whole staff are very caring, it has been a pleasant experience all the way around. I highly recommend Dr. Starr and Carolina Hand and Sports Medicine

Thank you Dr Starr!!! I mentioned Kay to ya but you didn’t hear me I Quess but she told me yall know her by Myra. I love this Women!! Blessed to have her in my life🤗❤️😇. I go to church with her and we share the care team together!!! Ask her about her banana pudding. Best in the South if yall have not ate it!!!!!

After a significant dog bite to my hand, urgent care re and subsequently the emergency department referred me Carolina Hand because of the location and depth of multiple puncture wounds and "crush injuries" but no broken bones. The biggest concern from both urgent care and the ED was damage to the ligaments and tendons in my hand and the depth of the wounds given that I am diabetic. Three days after the initial bite, I am seen at Carolina Hand. His assistant calls me back to a room, cuts off the splint that the ED put me in, and leaves. A few minutes later, this guy walks in,. I presume it's Dr. Starr but he doesn't introduce himself and doesn't give me time to ask before he says "So, you got bit by a dog, looks like the antibiotics are working, you need to start moving it. Make a fist." Mind you, a 95lb dog chomped down on my hand 7 times before he released it and neither this doctor nor his assistant asked for the specifics of bite or how it is feeling. I tell him that I am unable to

Dr. Adam M. Starr, M.D. is absolutely thrilled to be practicing as an orthopedic hand surgeon for the Community of Asheville after more than a decade practicing orthopedic surgery and 25 years serving our country. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and Tulane University School of Medicine, earning the honor of serving as Chief Resident during his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at UMDNJ- Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He then completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge, England followed by a hand surgery fellowship at Brown University.
Dr. Starr served as an Orthopedic Hand surgeon at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and at Asheville Orthopedic Associates prior to joining the staff at Carolina Hand & Sports Medicine in October of 2021. He currently serves as the Chief of Hand Surgery at Mission Hospital, is a member of the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons, a Diplomate in the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the hand.
As a Fellowship trained hand surgeon, Dr. Starr’s focus is on injuries and disease of the fingers, hand, wrist, forearm and elbow.
When not working Dr. Starr enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. Together they travel, hike, ski and generally enjoy the many outdoor activities that Asheville has to offer.
