Dr Smathers handled my hip injection today and everything was smooth and simple. What I was really impressed with is that he took the time to ask about my injuries and didn’t just handle me like a number. Not just that, but we were able to relate to one another as he practices wilderness survival medicine which is really fantastic! Since we do eco-tourism, the conversation we had was beneficial to the sorts of activities I do when I travel abroad and this small thing was above and beyond. Thanks! Awesome.

Dr. Smathers is a highly personable individual who has always presented as a gifted physician. He obviously enjoys his profession and truly wants to provide the best outcome for each patient, no matter what their age or physical capacity. He clearly describes treatment options and keeps current with innovative and effective treatment therapies. Dr. Smathers is entirely a trustworthy orthopedist; as a bonus he may offer engaging athletic stories and very special comical band-aids.

Dr Smathers took time to explain in terms that a layperson could understand. He discussed the options available to correct my problem and helped me to decide the choice I felt best for me. Today's was my second experience with Dr. Smathers who is treating my swollen arthritic knee. He listens carefully and thoroughly explains optional treatments allowing his patient to chose the option they believe would be best for him or herself. I feel that I am in very capable hands. Dr. Smathers is very personable, polite and caring, I definitely recommend him for any orthopedic/sports medicine need.

Answered my questions, explained my x rays of my shoulder. Moved my arm at different angles to complete my diagnosis. Gave my cortisone injection explaining every step of the process including when it would hurt a little after the numbing spray. Impressed me as a real person, not a pompous a--. Gave me detailed instructions on physical therapy to do at home. Made a follow up appointment for next injection. Informed me that he is not a surgeon but i might have to have filing down of the spur on my humerus as a last resort. Made me feel comfortable. Felt reassured! I am a critical care Registered Nurse

I am so relieved to find such a kind and caring Doctor! I appreciate his attention to detail, accuracy and it is obvious that he is very knowledgeable! I have already recommended him to a friend that is having problems with her knees. She will be calling in hopes that she can see him! I also appreciated that he took his time and didn't rush. As a patience, it's already nerve racking to be there. I was relaxed and comfortable within a few minutes. I am sincerely grateful for my experience and the care that Dr. Smathers provides!
